Population Problem of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a small country with a large population. It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The population of a country becomes a problem when it is greater than its resources and opportunities. In Bangladesh, the rapid growth of population creates pressure on land, food, education, health, employment and the environment.

There are many causes of this problem. Illiteracy, early marriage, poverty, religious misunderstanding, lack of awareness and lack of proper family planning are the main causes. Many people in rural areas still think that more children mean more earning members. As a result, the population continues to increase.

The effects of overpopulation are serious. People do not get enough food, housing, education and medical facilities. Unemployment increases day by day. Many people move to cities in search of work, and this creates slums, traffic jams, pollution and social problems. Agricultural land is also decreasing because houses, roads and factories are being built on it.

To solve this problem, education must be spread among all classes of people. Early marriage should be stopped. Family planning programmes should be made more effective. Women should be educated and empowered. The government, social organizations, teachers, religious leaders and mass media should work together to make people aware of the bad effects of overpopulation.

Population can be an asset if people are educated, skilled and healthy. But uncontrolled population growth is a great burden for Bangladesh. So, we must control population growth and turn our people into skilled human resources for the development of the country.

Sources of Air Pollution in Dhaka City

The pie chart shows the major sources of air pollution in Dhaka city. The sources include vehicles, power plants, brick kilns and industry.

According to the chart, vehicles are the largest source of air pollution. They are responsible for 50% of the pollution. This shows that smoke from buses, trucks, cars and other vehicles creates the biggest problem for city air. Power plants are the second largest source, causing 20% of air pollution. Brick kilns contribute 18%, which is also a significant share. Industry is responsible for 12% of the pollution.

The chart clearly shows that transport-related pollution is the most serious problem in Dhaka city. Power plants, brick kilns and industries also pollute the air, but their shares are lower than that of vehicles. To reduce air pollution, old vehicles should be controlled, clean fuel should be used and factories and brick kilns should follow environmental rules.

A Rainy Night Surprise

Late one rainy evening, Siyam was alone at home reading a book. Suddenly he heard a soft knock on the door. At first, he thought it was wind. But then the knock came again, louder this time. He opened the door and saw something that surprised him greatly.

A little boy was standing there, completely wet and shivering. He looked frightened and could not speak clearly. Siyam quickly took him inside and gave him a towel. The boy said that he had lost his way while returning from his uncle's house.

Siyam gave him some warm food and asked his name and address. The boy said that his name was Nabil and he lived in a nearby village. Siyam called his parents, who were away at a relative's house, and told them everything. Then he phoned the local chairman for help.

After some time, Nabil's father came with two neighbours. He was crying with joy when he saw his son safe. He thanked Siyam again and again. Siyam felt happy because he had helped a helpless child on a dangerous night. From that day, he understood that kindness and courage are very important in human life.

A Brave Act

Last Monday I went to bed at about 11 p.m. and slept a sound sleep. Suddenly I woke up at about 2 a.m. when I heard a hue and cry at a little distance. I got up from bed and saw that a cottage was burning. I shouted for help and ran towards the cottage.

Many villagers came out with buckets of water. The fire was spreading fast because the cottage was made of straw and bamboo. An old woman was crying and saying that her little grandson was still inside. Hearing this, I could not stand idle. I covered my face with a wet cloth and entered the cottage.

The room was full of smoke, but I heard the child crying. I found him near a corner and brought him out safely. The villagers then worked together and put out the fire after some time. The child was taken to a doctor and he became safe.

The old woman blessed me with tears in her eyes. I felt very happy because I could save a life. That night taught me that courage and quick action can save people in danger.
