Hi, I'm Shyam. I'm from Magura. Although it's the district headquarters, it's a small town. I'm in grade I now in Chander Haat Bidyaloya. I love games and sports very much. My father was an athlete in his student life. He inspires me to follow in his footsteps and take part in games and sports or do some exercise besides my studies. So, I get up early in the morning and take a walk with my father almost every day. We walk for about an hour. At school, during break play kabadi, gollaehhut, badminton, table tennis and carom. Sometimes I practice the high jump and the long jump outside the school campus Playing-football is a passion for me. I like watching television too.
I watch sports programmes on different TV channels during my free time: I'm a fan of National Geographic, Discovery and Animal Planet for their documentaries as they are quite interesting as well as educative. Recently my father has presented me with a camera as he was very happy with the result of my Junior School Certificate exam. When I hold the camera. I feel so excited! I wish I could be an amateur photographer in future-not to take only personal photographs at different parties but to shoot our beautiful Bangladesh. I'm sure that soon photography will be my most favourite pastime.

The Boatman's Reward
There was a poor boatman in a village. He was illiterate. He used to row his boat from morning till evening only to make both ends meet. Though he worked hard, he could not earn enough to live comfortably. Many passengers often looked down upon him because he could not read or write.
One day, a school teacher crossed the river in his boat. The teacher talked to him kindly and advised him to learn the alphabet. At first, the boatman felt ashamed and said that he was too old to study. But the teacher encouraged him and told him that education had no age limit.
From the next week, the boatman started attending a night school after finishing his work. It was difficult for him, but he did not give up. Slowly he learned to read signs, count money properly and understand weather warnings.
One evening, he read a warning about a coming storm and stopped some villagers from crossing the river. His timely decision saved many lives. The villagers praised him greatly. The boatman then understood that education brings dignity, wisdom and safety. From that day, he encouraged everyone to learn.
Me: Hello, Amid. Why are you looking so upset today?
Amid: I have done badly in the exam. I spent too much time browsing Facebook.
Me: I am sorry to hear that. Facebook has some merits, but we must use it wisely.
Amid: What merits do you mean?
Me: It helps us communicate with friends and relatives, share information, join study groups and know important news quickly.
Amid: That is true. I sometimes get useful class notes from Facebook groups.
Me: But excessive use of Facebook has many demerits. It wastes time, makes students inattentive to studies and may spread fake news.
Amid: I understand it now. I often planned to study but kept scrolling for hours.
Me: You should make a routine and use Facebook only for a fixed short time after study.
Amid: You are right. From today, I will use Facebook carefully and give more attention to my lessons.
Me: That is a good decision. I hope you will do better in the next exam.
Amid: Thank you for your advice.
